If you’ve been reading the news lately in Round Rock, you might have heard of a new joint partnership between Honda and General Motors. There are two important parts of this partnership, one short-term and one longer-term, but both have the same goals: affordable, available electric vehicles for every driver in San Marcos and beyond who want them. This partnership also has the ambitious goal of taking on climate change by cutting down on tailpipe emissions and converting as many vehicles as possible to emission-free electric power. The team at First Texas Honda has put together an easy-to-follow guide on the Honda Prologue, Honda/GM electric batteries, and much more below! So, if you’re asking yourself, “What does the Honda and GM partnership mean?” or “When will affordable electric vehicles be available?”, you’ve come to the right place. Check it out, and be sure to keep an eye on our inventory to see what we have available.
The first part of Honda and GM’s partnership comes in the form of the 2024 Honda Prologue, the first-ever Honda electric SUV. The Honda Prologue will be the first fully-electric vehicle sold by Honda in the United States, and it will be built using an innovative electric platform produced by General Motors. There are rumors that Acura, the luxury car branch of Honda, will also be getting its own electric SUV called the Acura ADX. We expect that the Honda Prologue will be available later this year and in 2023. The next part of the Honda/GM deal is more long-term, extending first to 2027 with a new line of jointly-developed electric crossovers, and then all the way to 2040–when Honda predicts to have a 100% emission-free lineup around the world.
While the 2024 Honda Prologue rollout–and potentially the Acura ADX–represent the short-term goals for the Honda and GM partnership, Honda/GM electric batteries represent the longer-term. The ultimate goal of this partnership is to make affordable electric vehicles for all who want them. While electric vehicles are more easily available than a few years ago, many are still asking the important question, “When will affordable electric vehicles be available?” Honda and GM are seeking to change the electric vehicle game by developing all-new battery technology made from materials like silicon and lithium. These batteries will be found on an all-new fleet of affordable electric vehicles starting in 2027, likely under a wide variety of Honda and GM brands including Honda, Acura, GMC, Chevy, Buick, and Cadillac.
While there aren’t currently any Honda electric vehicles in the Cedar Park area, there are plenty of high-tech hybrids to choose from!
