What is Collision Mitigation Braking System™?

The Honda Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) is a crucial driver assistance technology that’s included in the Honda Sensing™ suite, which is standard on new Honda vehicles. This system detects probable front collisions and warns the driver to apply the brakes. Like the other safety technologies included in the Honda Sensing™ package, the CMBS™ helps drivers feel safer as they cruise around Round Rock and San Marcos. 

How Does CMBS™ Work?

The CMBS™ uses a radar transmitter, which is safely secured inside the grille trim, to estimate the distance and closing speed of cars or pedestrians in front of you. The radar transmitter and high-resolution camera combination take in your surroundings and will trigger an alert if you’re likely to collide with an object ahead of you. Visual and audio warnings are given to help you — the driver — brake in time to avoid the accident. 

What are the Stages When Danger is Detected?

After a possible collision is detected, the CMBS™ goes through up to three stages to help San Marcos drivers avoid an accident: 

• Stage 1: Drivers receive visual and audio warnings of an obstacle straight ahead. 
• Stage 2: In addition, the brakes are lightly applied to slow the vehicle down. 
• Stage 3: If necessary, the brakes are applied strongly to dramatically reduce your speed.

If you intervene when the initial visual and audio warnings are initially given, the next two stages won’t be activated.
